Aspirin warning. Dr. Abdul Samad Ezzat Al Ahdab / Syria

A recent study warned healthy elderly people not to take aspirin daily, as it increases the risk of fatal internal bleeding. According to the study, experts warned against self-treatment with aspirin, even though it was prescribed by doctors to patients after a heart attack or stroke, as it thins the blood and reduces clotting and thus limits the chances of recurrence. The latest study included about 20,000 people over 70 years old in the United States and Australia, all of whom were healthy and did not suffer from heart problems, who were given half a daily dose of aspirin for five years. The results showed that the tablets not only reduced the risk of heart problems or any other benefits, but also increased the number of major stomach bleeding cases. The researchers stressed that the results do not apply to people who take aspirin because of a heart attack or stroke, but should continue to follow the advice of their doctor.
